Qurbani 2009 - Alor Setar,Kedah

Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Penyerahan Daging Qurban sempena Program “Qurbani 2009” bertempat di Kg.Teluk Malik, Kepala Batas, Kedah.

Melalui majlis penyerahan daging Qurban peringkat negeri Kedah, pihak IRM telah melaksanakan ibadah Qurban tersebut di empat buah lokasi yang berbeza iaitu Kg Teluk Malik di Kepala Batas, Kg Bukit Tinggi di Mukim Kepala Batas, Kg. Pulau Maharaja di Mukim Padang Perahu dan di Kuala Sala, Yan. Seramai 300 buah keluarga yang layak menerima sumbangan tersebut. Penerima sumbangan ini terdiri daripada golongan fakir miskin, ibu tunggal dan juga anak yatim yang layak menerima sumbangan daging Qurban tersebut. Pelaksanaan ibadah Qurban tersebut adalah hasil sumbangan orang ramai dan juga syarikat korporat melalui kempen `Qurbani 2009` sejak ia dilancarkan pada hujung October yang lepas.

Melalui kempen ini, pihak IRM telah memberi peluang kepada masyarakat Malaysia untuk melaksanakan ibadah qurban di 28 buah negara termasuklah Malaysia, Somalia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, India, Sudan, Malawi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, Pakistan, Chad, Malim China, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Chechnya, South Africa, Yemen,Indonesia, Albania, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt dan Lebonan.

Pelaksanaan ibadah qurban peringkat Malaysia turut diadakan di 4 buah negeri iaitu Kelantan,Kedah, Melaka dan juga selangor. Di negeri Kelantan ia akan dilaksanakan di Kg Laha, Pulai Chondong .Di Negeri Selangor, pelaksanaan ibadah qurban akan di buat di Sg. Choh Rawang dan di Kg. Batu 20, Sg.Lui, Ulu Langat. Manakala di Melaka pula akan Kg. Orang Asli,Bukit Sebang, Alor Gajah. Pelaksanaan ibadah qurban di Malaysia ini memfokuskan pengagihan daging segar kepada golongan fakir miskin,anak yatim, oku dan juga masyarakat orang asli.

Pada kebiasaannya, daging qurban segar akan di agihkan kepada fakir miskin. Tetapi konsep yang berbeza telah diperkenalkan oleh IRM dengan membuat pengagihan daging Qurban dalam tin kepada negara-negara yang mengalami penderitaan dan kemiskinan seperti di Palestin. Untuk tahun 2009, sebanyak 10,000 ekor kambing biri-biri telah dibawa masuk ke Malaysia dari Arab Saudi untuk menjalani proses pembuangan tulang (debonding) dan juga proses pengetinan sebelum dihantar ke negara-negara miskin yang telibat dengan program ini.

Konsep pengagihan daging qurban yang bersistematik dan teratur kepada golongan yang amat memerlukannya merupakan agenda utama Islamic Relief dalam menyampaikan amanah orang ramai. Melalui cawangan Islamic Relief di seluruh dunia, pengagihan akan dibuat kepada mereka yang betul-betul layak menerimanya bagi memastikan ibadah qurban yang ditunaikan ini akan mencapai matlamatnya agar manfaatnya dapat dirasai oleh masyarakat Islam di seluruh dunia.

Sempena kempen ‘Qurban ke arah kebajikan’ pihak IRM telah mensasarkan untuk mengagihkan daging Qurban dan bantuan makanan kepada 3000 keluarga miskin di Malaysia dan seluruh dunia.

Qurbani 2009 - Alor Gajah, Melaka

Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Penyerahan Daging Qurban sempena Program“Qurbani 2009” bertempat di Perkarangan Surau, Kampung Asli Bukit Sebang, Alor Gajah, Melaka.

Majlis ini telah disempurnakan oleh Pengurus Projek, Islamic Relief Malaysia, Encik Farouq Bin Zauji. Program ini juga turut disertai oleh sukarelawan-sukarelawan Islamic Relief Malaysia dan juga penduduk setempat di kampung tersebut.

Melalui majlis ini, seramai 100 buah keluarga di kalangan masyarakat orang asli di sekitar Alor Gajah.Turut diagihkan adalah pek makanan yang mengandungi makanan asas seperti beras, gula, tepung dan sebagainya. Penerima sumbangan ini terdiri daripada golongan fakir miskin, ibu tunggal dan juga anak yatim yang layak menerima sumbangan daging Qurban tersebut. Pelaksanaan ibadah Qurban tersebut adalah hasil sumbangan orang ramai dan juga syarikat korporat melalui kempen `Qurbani 2009` sejak ia dilancarkan pada hujung October yang lepas.

Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Penyerahan Daging Qurban sempena Program“Qurbani 2009” bertempat di Masjid Al-Rahman Sungai Lui, Kg.Batu 20 Sungai Lui Hulu Langat, Selangor.

Majlis ini telah disempurnakan oleh tetamu kehormat iaitu Ahli Parlimen Hulu Langat, YB Dr. Che Rosli bin Che Mat dan ADUN Dusun Tua, YB Ismail Bin Sani. Turut hadir ke majlis ini adalah Pengurus Projek, Islamic Relief Malaysia, Encik Farouq Bin Zauji. Program ini juga turut disertai oleh sukarelawan-sukarelawan Islamic Relief Malaysia dan juga penduduk setempat di kampung tersebut.

Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Penyerahan Daging Qurban sempena Program “Qurbani 2009” bertempat di Kg.Laha, Pulau Chondong, Kelantan.

Program `Qurbani 2009` anjuran Islamic Relief Malaysia ini merupakan program pengagihan daging Qurban bagi membantu meringankan beban golongan fakir miskin dan juga golongan yang kurang berkemampuan bagi menyambut kehadiran Eidul-Adha ini.
Majlis ini telah disempurnakan oleh En.Zawahir bin Abdullah, Pengarah Negara, Islamic Islamic Relief Malaysia. Program ini juga turut disertai oleh sukarelawan-sukarelawan Islamic Relief Malaysia dan juga penduduk setempat di kampung tersebut.

Melalui majlis ini, seramai 250 buah keluarga dari lima buah kampung yang berdekatan iaitu Kampung Laha, Kg.Kerawang, Kg.Bandar, Kg.Bukit Ajil dan Kg.Durian Hijau yang layak menerima sumbangan tersebut. Penerima sumbangan ini terdiri daripada golongan fakir miskin, ibu tunggal dan juga anak yatim yang layak menerima sumbangan daging Qurban tersebut. Qurbani 2008 in Kelantan

Islamic Relief Malaysia organised Qurbani Meat Distribution in Malaysia on the 8th December 2008.

The distribution was held in two states, Kelantan and Kedah,respectively. In Kedah, some 200 beneficiaries in the district of Sik received qurbani meats and food packs.

Meanwhile, in Kelantan, the distribution was held in Kok Lanas benefiting 100 recipients.Below are the photos taken during the distribution in Kok Lanas.

IR Qurbani in Chechnya : Khava's Story

Seventy-two year-old Khava Gazhaeva is from Alkhan-Kala village, Chechnya

"My day begins early in the morning when I do the morning prayer. I usually spend my day in traditional domestic cares, such as washing, cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the cow.

The basic food of our family consists of soup with cereals and vegetables from our own little garden. As for milk and other products we buy them in our local market where the prices are quite low. The favourite food in our family is fried meat but we do not have it very often. I buy meat products only once a month when receiving my pension. It is too expensive in relation to our income.

We face many difficulties in our everyday life, most of them caused by the war. I still cannot cope with the fact that I lost my son

Our family house was almost completely destroyed during the war. Nobody works in our family as there are no jobs. My daughters and I receive some allowances but they are hardly enough to feed five people.

Being in Ingushetia we heard that Islamic Relief is helping the deprived and vulnerable people. Islamic Relief distributes food parcels and meat on Qurbani and Ramadhan. Frankly speaking this aid was a true rescue for me and my grandchildren. We receive the parcels every year and it has become a real support for my family.

My family consisted of six people: me, my son, my two daughters and two grandchildren. But in 1999 my son Khasan disappeared without any trace. Since then we’ve heard nothing about him.

The primary and single income is my pension and the humanitarian aid of Islamic Relief. I can’t work because of my age though I try to search for any temporary job just to feed my children. It is very hard as no one wants to hire a weak old woman.

The situation is getting worse as we have to pay rent for our old flat every month. The flat is very small with only one room. There are no conveniences and water facilities are not available. My poor grandchildren have to bring water from far away as I can’t find money to buy it. Every day I go out early in the morning to try to earn some money to buy bread and milk. I’m so happy that my little children help me in the garden as I feel I am becoming weaker every day.

In spite of the long distance my grandchildren try to attend school every day. I don’t need to force them to go there. They like their school and make visible progress. They have to study at an old shabby school in two shifts. This fact makes me sad but I’m happy that they will be well educated.

I wish to find any job to provide my children with winter clothing. I also want to help them to continue their education.

To receive meat on such a beautiful occasion is really very pleasant. That is why I would like to thank the donors with all my heart for their assistance and sympathy."

IR Qurbani in Mali : Guessa's Story

Guessa Berete, is from the District of Bamako, in Mali

"I spent the Eid in good health. It is different from other times because of the fact that many people care for their poor neighbours at this time. I got a lot of food and other commodities from generous people.

I celebrated Eid with joy and happiness as I was healthy and received many blessings from my fellow people. The only thing I am still dreaming of is how to accomplish my holy duty in Mecca, but I remain grateful to Allah and as a faithful person I must abide by what is provided to me by him.

We are five persons: I, my three daughters and my step-sister. I am the main breadwinner of this family and my income comes from casual work. I am always struggling to find food for my family. During the harvest season I work for farmers who pay me with cereal.

My house is made of mud with three single rooms, it is totally deteriorated. When it rains, we have to go to the kitchen. Sanitation conditions are very bad. The pitch latrine is filled up with excrement and smells all the time.

We eat pasta regularly and when we have some money we eat rice. Sometimes we eat different types of meals mainly provided to us by some of our neighbours who care about our living conditions.

My favourite meal is Jollof; cooked rice with fresh fish, which is expensive and mainly for rich people that can afford it.

I eat meat once in a while; I would say less than three times per month. The price of a kilogram of fresh meat is € 2.13.

Food is not available like before. This is due to regular rainfall shortages and periodic locust infestation to which is now added the increasing population and the constant deterioration of farming lands.

The children are the first ones to suffer when there is a food shortage. They face malnutrition and constantly fall sick. All these situations are very painful for a head of family when you do not have any means to overcome them. Before the food shortages we ate millet, sorgho, rice and beans.

I did not know Islamic Relief and I had not heard of it before. This is my first time to be served with meat packs.

This meat will serve us for some days and when I leave you I am going to cook part of this meat and then dry it so that I will not need to buy meat for a while.

I thank Allah the Almighty for allowing us to be part of this feast. May all of us live for a long time! It is only the Almighty that can reward those that care for the neediest. May Allah always feed them with sharing faith and beliefs."

IR Qurbani in Iraq : Om Mohamed's Story

Om Mohamed is Kurdish and lives in Erbil City, Iraq. Her husband abandoned her and her two sons some time ago and now the family moves from neighbour to neighbour with no home to call their own.

The family survives on bread, rice and tea. They rarely eat meat as they are dependent on the kindness of neighbours who are poor themselves.

Om Mohamed received an IR Qurbani pack containing meat and other food items. She accepted the pack with tears in her eyes, saying: "It is the first time someone has donated to me such a good quantity of food to keep me and my children."

IR Qurbani in Afghanistan : Gullam's Story

Thirteen year-old Ghullam Nabi is from Kandahar City, Afghanistan.

“Eid is fun and I go to my relatives' homes and get pocket money and many things to eat. We are poor so I wear used clothes on Eid but I eat cookies and dry fruits. On the big Eid [Eid ul Adha] I eat meat. I like to eat rice and meat but we cannot buy it every week. Generally, we have meat when someone from our neighbourhood sends some. It is very expensive and costs about 250 Afghanis (5 US$).

I live with my mother and my brothers. We live in a government orphanage which is supported by the Afghan Red Crescent.

There is no significant food shortage but we cannot afford to buy good food for ourselves. I am a student and cannot earn anything and my mother is mentally ill. We eat vegetables like potatoes and sometimes eggs.

Islamic Relief staff visited our orphanage and I got a meat pack from them. Last year, I also received a Ramadhan food pack from Islamic Relief. The food packs are very good because there is meat and other good things. My mother always prays for you for the food/meat packs because we use it for one month and cook meat and enjoy eating it. It is a very big help for our family. I got 5 kg of meat today and it will be enough for one month.

Our life is very hard; we cannot wear good clothes, cannot eat good food and we live in poor conditions. We don’t have any money.

We don’t have a house of our own, we were given one room in a government sponsored orphanage. It is made of mud and limestone. It’s a simple home and has basic washing and cooking facilities. My mother cannot work due to her condition.

I always pray to Almighty Allah to solve our problems.

I attend school with my second brother. My third brother is too young. My school is very good and I have many friends. Also the teachers are nice.

IR Qurbani in Bosnia : Bektic's Story

Bektic Fatima is from Joseva village in Bratunac, in Bosnia.

“I lost my husband in the war; he was killed by a bomb. His body was never found. I can’t even count the members of my family who have been killed in this war.

I am faced with a very difficult situation. I went to visit my son who lives in Ilijas, with his family. It was good to see them on this blessed day, but I couldn’t wait to come back home, as I saw how hard they are finding it to survive and how life is difficult for them as well.

We got these wooden houses from a donor. He sometimes brings us some food. I cook, but I am not able to make anything special. I eat just to survive.

We live 40 kilometres from Bratunac. It is wilderness. We are surrounded by forest, so when the season of mushrooms or some forest herbs arrives, we collect it and sell it.

Unfortunately we do not have any kind of animals here. If we for example had chickens the foxes from the forest would come and eat them.

The crisis has been with us for 10 months, since we came back to our pre-war home. I have two sons living in Sarajevo, one of them is working as a manual labourer and he is struggling to provide his family with the basic needs. The other one is not working, he is an invalid. The children who live with me are faced with many difficulties, but I am not able to help them more.

God is my witness that I am doing everything I can.

Our life was completely different before the war. We had everything. Many people were living here, but now it is just forest. But I had to come back here. This is my home.

This is the first time I have received Qurbani meat. I am very thankful for that. The children like the Qurbani meat with macaroni. Any assistance means a lot to me. With this meat we will have a good lunch for days. I am very grateful. Also, I am so happy that you have come to visit. Sometimes I look at the street, hoping I will see someone passing. There is no one here. Just forest. Thank you for your visit.

I live with my daughter and her son; he is in the fifth grade at elementary school. The main income we have is my pension, and that is 300 KM ( €150). This is not enough for us to have a normal life.

The main problem is life without electricity, water and heating. In the house we had before the war, we had everything. Electricity, water, even a washing machine. We had two cows, sheep and 15 bulls. We had everything.

Now I live in one room, 16 square metres. We don’t have a bathroom; we use plastic wash-basins to take a bath. It is very difficult to cope with this. I don’t have any plans or hopes for the future. I would like to have some animals, which would make me feel alive again. I have high blood pressure and diabetes. My health is not good, but I am surviving.

I would like to thank Islamic Relief for your help and assistance. I am happy that you have come to visit, to see in what kind of circumstances we live. I hope you will come again and you will remember us again.”

IR Qurbani in Yemen : Abdullah's Story

Seventy year-old Abdullah Yahea Hussen Abu Bakr lives in Al Germaen village in the Reymah governorate of Yemen.

His family consists of 17 people, all of whom share a house which was donated to them by a relative. One of Abdullah’s sons works as a farmer, providing the family with its only source of income.

Feeding the family is a daily struggle for Abdullah and his sons.

Abdullah usually spends Eid visiting family and friends. In 2007 he received his first ever IR Qurbani meat pack. Abdullah was very grateful for the pack and sent his best wishes to all those who help support the poor.

IR Qurbani in China : Ma's Story

Ma Fuxiu is from Beitai Village, China.

"Usually we have three days holiday for Eid. Before Eid we clean our house and prepare all kinds of delicious food, such as deep-fried dough cakes and twists and a little meat. On that day, we wear new dress and visit our relatives.

Normally we eat noodles with potatoes and beans which are grown by my father. We cannot eat eggs and meat even in the month of Ramadhan, except on the Eid day.

Meat is my father’s favourite food, so this Eid I spent RMB 12.8 Yuan ($1.87) from my scholarship to buy 0.5 kilogram’s of beef for my family.

My family breed sheep to make money. Where we live we depend on planting crops or raising livestock for a living, but in the arid years, the food we grow does not feed my family, so my father has to go outside and do some part-time jobs.

I have known about Islamic Relief since the Girl’s Student Home Project was implemented. With the completion of this project, I need not pay the accommodation fee of 80 Yuan each semester, which has eased my family’s financial burden.

I have also received a meat pack twice now, in the Qurbani programme this year and last year.

The meat parcel is great and it helps me and my family quite a lot; it represents a rare occasion to add meat to my diet and provide nutrition for my body. With Islamic Relief’s help now I can join in this big and warm family, feeling the warmth of the world, enjoying learning and life and striving for a bright future.

It is harder for a girl to get an education. Many female Hui students have to drop out of school because there is no school accommodation available or because of unaffordable school fees. They leave school at an early age and learn to be a housewife, get married and become a young mother. This seems to be a common way of life for girls here.

My sister had only two years of schooling before marriage; my brother studies in the Northwest Institute for Ethnic Minorities in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, which is more than 400 kilometres away from my home. I study in the Middle School of Haiyuan County. I enjoy school very much. I am interested in English and Mathematics.

I really want to continue my studies. I have a strong will to get into a good college and walk out of the mountains where I now live.

I am extremely grateful to those kind donors who provided me with a free meat packet and a comfortable place to live so as to give me the courage and motivation of life. I have a strong will to realise my life value as a reward to those kind-hearted people."

IR Qurbani in Sudan: Seka's Story

Seka Hamad Babiker is from Alfardoes village in the Gissan locality, Sudan.

"On the Eid day I clean my house and prepare tea for my children. After that I exchange visits with my neighbours and family. We usually eat in groups.

Usually we eat sorghum. Sometimes we grow it at home but mostly we buy it from the market. We eat meat once a month and raise goats for milk to feed my children.

From July to October of each year there are food shortages because the supply of sorghum is scarce while the demand is high. My children and I survive on very little food.

I know Islamic Relief because they built the hospital and schools and distributed a Ramadhan parcel.

My husband works as an oil seller and I cultivate some vegetables and sorghum and sell them in the market to help my husband and my children.

My family do not have enough money but we sometimes sell some of our animals like chickens and goats. If we have sorghum we exchange it with meat and vegetables from the market.

Our house consists of three huts built from local materials with a latrine and a bathroom. There is no water in the house. We fetch water from a nearby Hafir (reservoir). I wash the dishes in the yard.

This meat is going to change our routine because we are always eating sorghum. Now we can meat and dry out part of it for future use.

My children Waleed and Afrah attend school, while Hafiz, Najah and Setina are under school age.

I hope my children can complete their education. God bless you and thank you very much. The meat has made the children very happy. Please do not stop helping us."

Alhamdulillah, this year Qurbani programme was done in Kampung Serkam, Malacca ( near Umbai) on 2nd day of Eidul Adha 21/12/2007 after Friday prayer. This was the first time that IRM did distribution process in Malacca.

100 beneficiaries ( 500 persons) received qurbani meat (1kg) and a food pack each.

Each food pack contained

1 pack of 10 kg rice
2 x 1 kg flour
1 x 2 kg sugar
1 x 250g salt
1 x 250g tea
2 tins of sardine
1 tin of condensed milk
1 container biscuits

Types of Qurbani

All animals are sacrificed according to Islamic guidelines and Islamic Relief then distributes three (3) types of qurbani meat: FRESH, CANNED and FROZEN.

Fresh Qurbani
IR distributes fresh qurbani meat in most countries, as animals are purchased and slaughtered locally

Canned Qurbani
IR gives out canned qurbani meat in areas where there has been conflict or natural disasters. This will be safer and easier to distribute. The animals are sacrificed in Australia and the meat is cooked and canned in New Zealand. Each can contains more than 450g meat.

Frozen Qurbani
IR will distribute frozen qurbani meat in places where fresh and canned qurbani is not possible. For example, frozen qurbani meat was distributed in Kosova and Bosnia Herzegovina.

Islamic Relief's Qurbani Programme Worldwide

Qurbani 2006 in Malaysia

Qurbani 2006 was the first IR Malaysia' s Qurbani campaign compared to international campaign done by Islamic Relief Worldwide which has started since 1986 in distributing the meat to the poor and needy.

For many poor people the Qurbani meat is the only meat they eat during the year.

Two (2) states were selected in performing and distibuting the Qurbani meat; Pahang and Kedah on 10 January, 2006.

In Pahang, the Qurbani programme were performed in Jenderak which is in Temerloh District. Nine (9) villages comprised of 300 families benefited from this programs. The villages were Kg Paya Luas, Kg Penderas, Kg Tenggering, Kg Pasu, Kg Lubok,Kg Pian, JKK Kuala Krau, JKK Tanjung Kubu and Kg Paya Rekah.

In Kedah, six (6) villages with 550 families received the Qurbani meat. The villages were Kg Budi, Kg Nawa, Kg Kolam/ Gua Ginu, Kg Kubang Besar, Kg Kepala Bendang and Kg Kolot.

Alhamdulillah, total of 850 families benefited from the Qurbani program.

Introduction to Qurbani Programme

The time has come again for all of us to celebrate the season of Hajj and the celebration of Hari Raya Qurban. The year's Qurbani Programme IRM is launching ' The Seed To Charity Starts With Your Qurban' campaign.

The purpose of this campaign is to reach out to the needy communities in Malaysia and around the world. It is an effort to help the poor and needy families, orphans, single mothers and also old folks by bringing them a little joy during the festive month of Zulhijjah. Our aim is to sponsor 3,000 inclusive local and international beneficiaries with Qurbani meat.

The objectives of this campaign are

To alleviate suffering and hunger among the poor and needy communities in Malaysia and worldwide.
To provide nutrious food packages as an effort to alleviate malnutrition among poor and needy families. Each food package will provide the beneficiaries with minimum content of carbohydrate and energy (60%), protein (35%) and fat (5%).
To incorporate the poor and needy families during this festive celebration of Qurban.
To create awareness on the importance of Qurban to the Malaysian public.
